Unifil Head of Mission and Force Commander Major-General Luciano Portolano awarded the United Nations medal to the Nepalese peacekeepers based in Meiis Ej-Jabel.
Major-General Portolano praised the valuable contribution of Nepalese troops to UNIFIL since its creation, in his first medal-parade ceremony.
“Nepalese peacekeepers have served with great loyalty, distinction and courage, making their country proud. Today they remain one of the pillars of UNIFIL,” he said.
As part of the celebrations to mark the occasion, the Nepalese peacekeepers organized a very colorful parade animated by traditional drumming and marches.
Major-General Portolano paid tribute to past fallen soldiers. 850 troops are currently composing the Nepalese 55th battalion at UNIFIL.
The Force Commander and UNIFIL Head of Mission visited the UNIFIL Maritime Task Force at the Beirut port.
Major General Luciano Portolano was hosted by Admiral Rear Admiral Walter Eduardo Bombarda of Brazil aboard the Frigate Constituicao, flagship of the 7 unit-Maritime Force.
